Samit Dravid Joins India U-19 Squad for Australia Series
BENGALURU: Samit Dravid, the elder son of former Indian captain Rahul Dravid, has been selected for the India U-19 squad. The 18-year-old allrounder will participate in the upcoming multi-format series against Australia U-19.
Samit earned his place in the team due to his impressive performances in the Cooch Behar and Vinoo Mankad Trophy. He is one of four players from Karnataka in the squad. The others are Hardik Raj, Karthikeya KP, and Samarth Nagaraj.
On Saturday, the BCCI junior selection committee, led by Thilak Naidu, announced two squads for the series. The series includes three one-day matches and two four-day matches. These will be held in Puducherry and Chennai, respectively.
While Hardik Raj, a spinning allrounder, will play only in the white-ball matches, the other three Karnataka players are in both squads. Hardik made his Ranji Trophy debut last season.
Samit Dravid had a challenging phase last year. He underwent knee surgery in 2022 but made a strong comeback in 2023.
UP’s Mohammed Amaan will captain the team for the one-day matches on September 21, 23, and 26. MP’s Soham Patwardhan will lead the team in the four-day matches on September 30 and October 7.
