Google Announces $850M Investment for New Data Center in Latin America
Google (GOOGL.O) has announced it will invest over $850 million to build its second data center in Latin America. The new facility will be located in Canelones, Uruguay, and is expected to boost the region’s technological and professional development.
This expansion follows Google’s first data center in Latin America, which opened in Quilicura, Chile, in 2015. That center initially received a $150 million investment, with an additional $140 million spent on expansion in 2018.
Google’s commitment to the region is part of a broader strategy to enhance its global infrastructure. Recently, the company revealed plans for a major data center near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, slated to be operational by 2027. Additionally, Google has committed $3 billion to expand its data center operations in Indiana and Virginia, and another $2 billion for its first data center and Cloud region in Malaysia.
This latest investment highlights Google’s ongoing effort to support and advance technological capabilities in emerging markets.
