Earlier this month, X announced that it would shut down it’s operations and lay off it’s staff in Brazil, citing “censorship orders” from Moraes. However, the company stated that it’s service would still be accessible to users in Brazil.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has ordered Elon Musk to appoint a legal representative for his social media platform, X, in Brazil within 24 hours, or risk the platform being suspended in the country, according to a court ruling made public on Wednesday.

This follows an earlier announcement by X that it would shut down its operations in Brazil and lay off its staff, citing what it described as “censorship orders” from Moraes. However, the company added that its services would still be accessible to users in Brazil. The Supreme Court also shared a screenshot of the ruling on its X account, tagging Musk and X’s Global Government Affairs accounts.

The court’s decision states that companies failing to comply with Brazilian laws or protect private information could face temporary suspension of their activities. X has not yet responded to requests for comment made outside of normal business hours.
