The BJP has intensified its demands for action against the West Bengal government following the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. The incident has sparked widespread protests, with the BJP leading the charge for accountability.

Governor C V Ananda Bose met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday to brief him on the situation. Despite the growing pressure, sources indicate that the Centre is treading cautiously. While BJP protests continue across the state, the central government is mindful of not overstepping federal boundaries, especially given its reliance on regional allies.

A senior BJP leader remarked, “There is no clear plan yet on the next steps.” The Governor’s briefing to the Centre did not suggest any specific actions.

The BJP in West Bengal is pushing for “stringent” measures against the TMC government, with some party leaders urging the Centre to act against senior police officials allegedly mishandling the case.

President Droupadi Murmu expressed her dismay over the incident, stating, “Enough is enough.” Meanwhile, BJP leaders like Darjeeling MP Raju Bista have accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of compromising national integrity with her recent statements.

Despite the heated rhetoric, some BJP leaders caution against turning the situation into a direct confrontation with the TMC, noting that Mamata Banerjee still commands significant loyalty in the state.
